Liz Hall takes a closer look at a alligator snapping turtle which can weigh up to 80 kilograms, have a rather large head with sharp, beak like jaws at Melbourne Aquarium?s new "Lost Island" exhibit in Melbourne, 17 December 2007. Native of the southeartern United States, the turtle has a unique method of catching its prey, sitting motionless on the bottom of the waterway with its mouth open. They have a small, pink, worm-like lure on the end of their tongue which they wiggle to attract their prey and once the prey item is close enough, the alligator snapping turtle will grab it with its powerful jaws. The turtle will be joined by other exotic animals such as water monitors, pythons and the wreckage of a plane with an skelton hanging out as part the exhibition which opens 22 December 2007.
